News came through today that I think is fantastic from one point of view and a shame from another – the news that Kaka will not be moving to Man City this January.
It’s a shame that we won’t get to see a world class players such as Kaka in the Premier League – but this deal was wrong on so many levels that had it gone through it would have been a disaster. You simply cannot just throw £100m at a club and multiple hundreds of thousands a week to a player and not expect it to have repercussions. Whilst many businesses and even clubs are feeling the pinch, to spend that sort of money is just not responsible as it will create a false economy – Kaka is worth £100m? Then player X is worth the same, a club will argue.
And although it seems it won’t stop Man City from spending stupid money on mediocre players this January, they should be thankful that they don’t have the burden of that kind of expense. It simply cannot work from a business point of view – something that Ambramovich is now noticing at Chelsea. Football soon goes beyond being a fun plaything for these billionaires and the clubs need to pay for themselves to survive when the owners get bored.
So although I’d like to see Kaka here, it is better for football as a whole if this transfer didn’t go through! Yes, this sounds like a bit of a moaning point of view – which is not normally my way but this dealing just got me wound up!

It’s already happening – the chairman at Bayern is now saying “If Kaka is worth €120m then Ribery is worth €150m”. This is not going to be helpful to any club looking for players in the next couple of years.
