The Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly is the first of the next generation Nike Mercurial Vapor football boots, and on release quite possibly the most expensive football boots on general sale today at over £220. Available for pre-order, with the boots dispatched on the general release of 1st April, what makes these boots so special and should you buy them?

The Mercurial Vapor Superfly is inspired from running shoes, with the technology helping this boot keep its weight down to a minimum, just as top athletes would demand from their running shoes. Transfer that over to football boots and it means that these boots won’t hinder or slow you down enabling you to gain the most speed possible on the pitch and skip past defenders like they weren’t there. Looking at the side of the boot you see little lines running down the boot in a number of different directions – these are the “superfly” part of the boot, using flywire technology to give the Vapor its structure without using heavy materials, much in the way that a bridge gains strength using cables instead of heavy concrete. Couple that with the carbon fibre sole as previously seen on the Vapor SL and you have one lightweight football boot!

Unlike previous Mercurial Vapor boots and even the new Vapor V range, the Superfly doesn’t have a cover over the laces, which although may give you a cleaner strike on the ball, would create a little bit extra weight, which Nike wanted to avoid.  Cristiano Ronaldo should be wearing these boots for the first time in a live game against Inter Milan, and he will be quickly followed by Nike’s top players all over Europe including Drogba, Ribery and Ibrahimovic. These international players demand the best boot available, and if you want the best boot you can, then the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly is the boot you need now! Yes, you may not use it to its best ability, but we all need a bit of help on the football pitch and if you have the money (as they really aren’t cheap), why not treat yourself to the best!
