England stepped out onto the Wembley turf on Saturday evening and immediately split opinion with their new kit. Alan Green from Five Live called it disgusting, whilst myself and a friend of mine are quite taken with it!
You could call it retro, subtle, boring, dull or smart depending on your point of view, but a new England kit more often than not has people shouting it down, especially as the price is normally quite high early on until Sports Direct get their hands on it in store!
This England kit has been extensively researched and developed to provide the players the best chance of performing well in it – being tailor made by some of Saville Row’s best for each player. And the all white with collar looks pretty nice and minimalist. The Umbro symbol and three lions look as you might expect, but there is nothing else to detract from the quiet quality of the shirt. It also looks particularly good with the red names and numbers on the back, although I’m not sure about white shorts as I think blue works better (I think they have blue as an option). They also have some silly sock options, white, or white with a bit of red – what’s the point in that?!
Overall though it is a decent effort from Umbro that I expect to sell well as all England kits do – and lets hope it takes us to the World Cup in South Africa next summer!
