New Sweden Home Shirt

I’ve always quite liked the Swedish national team, despite growing up with bad memories of them putting us out of the qualifying for the 1994 World Cup, and when I saw their new home shirt I thought it looked really smart and worthy of a post on this site!

Made by Umbro, in traditional Swedish yellow as you may expect, the shirt manages to look quite classy and understated without being boring. I think it may be something to do with the subtle lines that run down the shirt which help lift the otherwise bold yellow colour.

The collar also helps differentiate the shirt from their change strip which was released last year yet also looks quite smart in dark blue. With Umbro’s “climate control”, this is the sort of shirt you can wear without worries of getting too hot if you wear it whilst playing sport or working out at the gym.

If England’s soon to be revealed home kit (made by the same company) looks similar to this (but in white obviously!), then I don’t think there would be many complaints.

Last weekend saw the latest Milan derby, one which David Beckham took part in for the first time – but it was Inter who came out on top, beating their Milan rivals 2-1. This Wednesday sees Spain vs England in a friendly game in Sevilla, so what better time to showcase the European Champions home shirt. Made by Adidas, the Spain 07/09 home kit was the very same kit that Spain were wearing when they won Euro 2008, and have been wearing in the 2010 qualifying rounds.

There are plenty of Premier League players in the Spanish squad, and you can buy the Spanish shirt with a number of their names on the back including Torres, Fabregas and Alonso along with others such as David Villa. The bright red shirt is lightend with the yellow (or gold!) adidas stripes on the arm and the national badge. It is a really smart looking kit that wouldn’t look out of place if worn casually. I don’t fancy England’s chances to get a good result out of the game on Wednesday, and despite some of the injuries in the Spanish squad I expect the home team wearing their red shirts to win this friendly!

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Ajax Amsterdam shirt, and when taking a look around the online shops recently I was taken aback by how smart the most recent version looks.

There is something about the red and white that contrasts each other yet looks really good, and this is a shirt that I could see myself wearing quite a lot. And when I saw you could get the shirt for just 25 quid from Subside Sports I couldn’t believe it – bargain!
