The adiZero is the best selling ‘speed’ boot on the market, and with it’s lightweight sprintskin upper along with the strength of the boot supported from the sole along with internal support bands, the adiZero purple is a boot that will perform for you in all conditions.

You can now specify the adiZero in a leather upper if you prefer that type of upper on your boot, and that is still the case with this bright colourway. It will add some extra weight to the boot though, so although it may be your preference, be mindful that this boot is generally built for speed and specifying an leather upper sort of goes against that!

Football Boots

Coming to the football season itself, you will of course need some football boots! Obviously this whole site is dedicated to help you find the best boots for you, so we won’t go into the variances too much right now, use the menu items above to browse what is available at the moment. You will probably need some moulded or hard ground boots to start the season with, so it is often worth spending the most of your boot buying budget on these. Then, if you find yourself needing a soft ground or traditional studded boot in the depths of winter, then it might be looking in the sales to find an ‘old’ colourway which can help you save 30, 40 or even 50% on the price of the football boots.

Boot Bag

You will need a bag to carry your football boots in, and chucking them in the back of the car doesn’t count! A boot bag is a cheap way of keeping the smell and the mud away from the back seats or boot of the car, and if you take a rucksack with a change of clothes then you’ll definitely need a boot bag to keep your clothes clean!

Shin Pads

Pre-season is a good time of year to look at your current shin pads; were they comfortable last year, and more importantly are they still in good condition. A good pair of shinpads is an inexpensive way to help keep yourself off the injury table during the season!

Sock Tape

Finally for now, a good boot cleaning kit of brush is a good investment. If you are spending upwards of £100 on a pair of football boots it makes sense to take good care of them! A quick brush down and clean will help your boots last much longer than if you just ignore them week after week, so make sure a cheap cleaning kit is also on your list.

For this model, Adidas have changed their naming convention, with the new model’s name ‘adiPower’ prefixing the ‘Predator’ family name, whereas up to this point all Predator’s have had the model name after the family name. While this doesn’t make any difference to the boot and it will almost certainly still be known as the Predator, it does help them differentiate new models a little better.

Launched in a striking Sharp Blue/Electricity/Black colours, the adiPower Predator is said to be the football boot that best meets the demands of the modern footballer, those needs being ball control, accuracy, power and speed.

For the adiPower, the Predator element of the football boot has been re-engineered with a new silicon rubber material which helps increase the spin imparted on the ball which means better striking of the football in all conditions and therefore better passes, shots and control from you.

The adiPower Predator has also been lightened from previous versions of the boot so this boot helps you run faster and have lighter foot control. Using the sprint frame construction as previously seen in the super-lightweight adiZero F50 football boots, this has reduced the weight of the Predator by 25%.

Don’t think that the lightening of the boot means any loss of power though. The Predator has always been the ‘power’ boot for Adidas thanks to its’ Powerspine in the sole of the boot, and the adiPower maintains this technology so if you strike the ball you can be sure you are getting all of the power being imparted into the ball.

The rest of the boot remains fairly unchanged from the super successful Predator X football boot, with a Taurus leather, Traxion outsole and a choice of two stud layouts; a traditional Firm Ground moulded studs layout and a new hybrid Soft Ground version which combines a mix of aluminium studs and moulded studs.

Unfortunately for the masses, the price of the adiPower predator has had to increase given all these enhancements, and they now retail at around £155. Not cheap for a pair of football boots but if you want the best then you need to pay for the best and these boots certainly seem to be that. David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Nani, Kaka and Robin Van Persie are players who have already worn the adiPower either at the end of last season or in pre-season this year, so if you want to follow in the footsteps of some of the most exciting players, then check out the prices below!

The keep cool base layer is created on the basis that if you wear a layer below your top layer, on the hottest days your sweat will be drawn away from your body by the base layer, leaving your top layer free of sweat and therefore making you feel more comfortable. It may seem odd that on a hot day you wear an additional layer, but trust me, it really works to keep you more comfortable!

Keep warm base layers act as an additional layer in the more conventional fashion, however as they are tight to the skin they don’t make you look or feel more bulky. They are built to keep the heat close into the body and not allow it to escape, and can be worn under almost any clothing. In the UK these keep warm base layers are especially useful in our winter, but there are plenty of times even in spring, autumn (and if we’re honest, summer!) that it can get a bit chilly so having a keep warm layer will get plenty of use!

The most popular base layer is the short sleeve top version, but plenty of footballers find themselves preferring the long sleeve version (especially in the winter), and more and more people are wearing the base layer shorts. Not personally sure on base layer shorts to be honest, but they work for some people so if it works for you then great, but I don’t feel I’m losing much heat from that area of the body when running around playing football. There are also all in one type suits which can look a bit bizarre and are less versatile than separate shorts and tops, but if you want the full outfit these are the way to go.

But what if you are worried that you’ll look silly with that belly poking out? This is a worry that is held by many people! The first thing to note though is that a base layer is exactly that – a base. Worn under a football shirt or t-shirt, the only bit people will see will be on your arms or legs, so no worries about showing off your belly!

If you play any type of sport in the cold or hot then some skins like all those mentioned above are getting towards a “must-buy”, despite the fact that they are still relatively new things in the world of sport. And if you are the type that likes to go off into the snow skiing or boarding you’ll get even more use out of a “cold” base layer. Cricketers would get good use out of a “hot” under layer in our summer and this is where I personally use the dual t-shirt option until this year when I’m going to buy a base layer!

The Champions League version of the Predator X is a smart styled boot which as you can see in the pictures is mainly white, with blue highlighting. The Predator Strike zone also sports the Champions League ‘stars’ symbol which looks really smart on the top of this boot.

Tech wise, the boot remains the same as the other Predator X boots in the range, so you still get that fantastic blend of power and swerve. The power comes from the powerspine of the boot, which ensures that no power is los through the boot when striking the ball, so your shots remain hit hard!

The swerve comes from the rubber-sillicon upper of the boot, which combined with the full grain leather means that whether you want a swerving pass or shot, or just close control you will get it!
